On August 10, 2023, a student from Glen Oaks High School was detained by EBRSO deputies following a social media upload that depicted him in his school attire brandishing two firearms.
After receiving alerts about this concerning post, EBRPSS Security officials promptly alerted law enforcement. On investigating, School Drug Task Force officers approached the student on campus and found the firearms in his vehicle. As a result, the student was arrested on weapons-related charges and faces potential expulsion, subject to a disciplinary review.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office put out a statement sayin “We want to assure you that our security team took swift, decisive measures to ensure the safety of our students and staff remain the highest priority in this district. Any perceived threats to safety will be investigated thoroughly, and we will remain proactive and vigilant along with our network of partners to ensure our campuses are always safe environments.”
