Woman Arrested for Purchasing and Using Heroin in Presence of 4-Year-Old Child

Baton Rouge Police Investigators were called to the RaceTrac convenience store located at 8008 Airline Hwy. around 5:00 pm Saturday, August 31st to investigate a possible drug overdose. The caller stated a female had her young child with her in the restroom and was using drugs.

Police arrived on scene and located a female and child in the parking lot matching the description given by the caller. The female, identified as Brittany R. Barcia, 27, of Baton Rouge, told officers that she had just used Heroin in the restroom, in the presence of her 4-year-old child.

Barcia also told officers that she had just purchased the Heroin in the parking lot with her child present. A search of Barcia turned up a clear baggie (10g) of suspected Heroin, which was located in her bra.

She was taken into custody and charged with Possession of Schedule I Narcotics (Heroin), Use of CDS in Presence of Minors and Cruelty to Juveniles. Barcia was transported to EBR Parish Prison where she is currently being held in lieu of an $11,000 bond.
