Baton Rouge Police Officer Shot Near LSU Monday Night

A Baton Rouge Police Sergeant was shot just before 8:00 pm at 948 Geranium Street. That location is an apartment complex near Nicholson Drive.

According to a report, Police were sent to the complex just before 8:00 PM. The complex is about one block from LSU’s campus.

Authorities have reported that the incident stemmed from a domestic disturbance investigation.

Nicholson Drive was closed off near the area after SWAT was dispatched to the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing a Baton Rouge Police Officer limping to a waiting ambulance, which then sped away with him inside. Police did confirm that an officer was hit in the leg by gunfire and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Police spokesman L’Jean McKneely stated that at least 2 people were being detained for questioning as of 9:40 pm. One of them, Clifton Eames, 24 is believed to be the shooter while the other suspect was in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

Eames was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on three counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and illegal use of a weapon.
